If you're ready to make a difference and take the next step in your career then we want to hear from you. This is an amazing opportunity to develop your skills amongst some of the country's leading writers.

We’re looking for a reporter with a proven track record in breaking exclusive stories in the education and social affairs round. You will be responsible for generating and delivering accurate, interesting and well-written stories of interest to audiences across a variety of platforms. Prior experience in leading training sessions in content management systems would be a bonus.

  • Building and cultivating trusted contacts within the sector to deliver exclusive stories
  • Using social media, including Neighbourly and other third parties to drive community and audience engagement
  • Finding new and innovative ways of telling stories already in the mainstream media

This is a fast-paced role where no two days are the same. To succeed you will need:

  • Strong journalism skills, including the ability to write, self-edit, take pictures, shoot basic videos, and host livestream pieces to camera
  • To be a self-starter who is able to work on your own initiative
  • The ability to report on breaking news, court, council, crime, DHB matters, features and backgrounders and lifestyle content
  • Excellent time management and the ability to deliver several stories a day
  • A strong social media presence
  • A full, clean driving licence and the ability to protect a positive, safe and inclusive workplace

Benefits of working with us include:

  • Medical insurance
  • Access to an excellent employee assistance programme
  • A generous parental leave policy for any employees that are the primary or secondary carer
