DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Restaurant Manager is required to work at least 5 shifts per week, which will include shifts over the weekend. Tasks and responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following: • Overseeing the running of the restaurant, acting as maitre d’ and being a strong leader to the waiting team • Obtaining and displaying a manager’s certificate (this will be paid for by Automat Ltd. and is to be obtained within the first week of work). • Ensuring that the restaurant is run in accordance with the owner’s vision of a friendly, fast, efficient and accommodating environment catering to a loyal local following and drawing custom through word of mouth. • Preparing and administering rosters for staff (incl. kitchen), and being first point of contact for staff absences / holidays. • Taking responsibility for cash handling throughout the shift and cashing up at the end of the night. • Ordering and stock rotation • Keeping up good communication with the owner (Craig Dunshea), to ensure that the restaurant as a whole runs efficiently and smoothly. As a small start up business we must ensure that we keep our costs down in order to build things up. • To take a keen interest in the current business situation and to bring in sound ideas to increase profit, decrease spending, up selling orders and maximising guests spend where possible • To maintain a close and professional working relationship with the kitchen at all times. • Ensuring that daily briefings are held with the chef and important events are communicated to employees. • To be actively involved in all staff related issues and to handle them in a professional manner. • Assist the owner in identifying recruitment needs • Responsible for Front of House induction training and on the job training of new members of staff and also newly promoted staff • Assist in conducting appraisals • To come up with ways to promote and publicize the restaurant eg: by inviting food editors to review the restaurant; contacting local, regional, and national magazines with feature ideas; encouraging local businesses to hold social events at the restaurant etc. • To take responsibility for social media – the Automat Facebook page and a future website. • Latterly playing a key role in developing the Charlie Delta catering operation alongside Craig. SKILLS AND COMPETENCES The Restaurant Manager will need to: • Have had experience in similar hospitality management positions • Be self motivated • Be organized • Be flexible • Have a friendly and welcoming manner • Be an excellent comminicator • Have the ability to foster team work • Be good at problem solving and resolving conflicts • Have a good understanding and compassion for the owner’s vision and the overall success of the business • Be a quick and logical thinker • Be practical and accommodating • Be fast on their feet and have high energy levels • Have barista skills
